 Slidenews main features :
- display a slideshow either of as a simple gallery or as a news slideshow.
- it's jquery so no flash required.
- you can configure various things such as position of thumbnails, text panel, size of thumbnails or images, etc.

I'd like to precise that I have no intention to put this to make the best extension of its category, it was mainly a training work to handle joomla, but if some people like it and eagerly await some enhancement I'll gladly continue it according to my free time :)
